The Racially Ambiguous Cookie
Sweet things that soothe me
Ah, the black and white cookie. Are black and white living side by side in harmony with one another, or is there a divisive line between them?
I don’t know, but I love them both. Vanilla, exceptionally sweet. Chocolate, a little more complex, less sugary. My favorite part is what lies beneath. The cake. I love cake. And though they call this a cookie, I think it’s a misnomer, because, let’s be real, it’s cake.
This is the extent to which I want to continue to find nuance and delve into deep, social and political topics. I’m tired of rolling my eyes, and I find myself doing that constantly. To the point where I literally have had an eye-ache in my left eye for weeks. Who gets an eye-ache? Only someone who is straining their eyes, is my guess, and I’m sure rolling an eye can cause strain. So I need to cut that out.
Since October 7th, my podcast feed has been dominated by commentary on Israel and anti-Semitism. My WhatsApp feed is a barrage of hostage release news and politics in places far away. And social media, well, we know what happens there.
Facebook will from here on in be devoted to dog rescue sites. Instagram will be devoted to humorous videos, and twitter is history.
Today is a new day. I am high on sugar, and I’m going to swim, listen to music and read stories. And if I get one of the three of those done, I’ll consider it a win.
It’s time to move on.

"Look to the cookie!" (Seinfeld)
Sounds like a perfect Shabbat. Hope you get all three done...
